We were lucky enough to celebrate New Year's Eve on the rooftop balcony of Ben and Jo's fabulous riverside flat, with a great view of the Thames, fireworks on at least 3 sides, and top notch champagne. (Thanks to our hosts for their wonderful generosity, as always.)
Before the fireworks, before the countdown, and before the excitement reached its crescendo, I looked up and saw a beautiful full moon in the night sky. It had a huge glowing halo around it visible through the cloud. What was most remarkable about it though, was the corona beyond the halo - concentric circles of colour creating a rainbow effect radiating outwards. I'd never seen anything like it before. It was utterly breathtaking. I felt it was a truly great omen for the year and decade to come, and I felt blessed :)
I later learned it had also been a blue moon - the second full moon in a given month - a rare event indeed. Wow. I only wish I'd had a camera with me to take a photo of it, though I comfort myself that no photo could do it justice.
Apparently the next time a blue moon will occur on NYE is in 2028, and it will be a total lunar eclipse. I'll howl for that one ;)
Happy New Year to you all - may 2010 be the fruition of your hopes and dreams xxx
